Former Liverpool star’s son named in England U17 squad

The son of a former Liverpool star has been named in England Under-17s squad for this summer’s European Championships.

The team, currently managed by Neil Bryan, will travel to Albania in about a week for the tournament, with their first game against Belgium on May 20.

It’s still the same this year, with England in Group B along with Belgium, Italy and the Czech Republic.

They will open their campaign against Belgium before facing Italy on May 23 and the Czech Republic on May 26. If they qualify, they will face Albania, France, Germany or Portugal in the knockout round.

They have announced their squad and it includes the son of a former Premier League star and a wonderkid from Arsenal.

Regan Heskey, son of former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey. Has been name in the 21-man squad for the tournament.

Heskey, who was born in January 2008, is now 17 years old and plays for Man City. He joined the club in 2016 and made his debut for the Under-15s in November 2023 at the age of 15.

At club level, he has been involve with City’s Under-21s side and caught the eye when he scored a hat-trick in the space of 22 minutes on his Premier League 2 debut. And he has also played alongside his brother Jaden at City.

Heskey is no stranger to England Under-17s. Having made seven appearances and scored his first goal against Germany in September 2024.

Meanwhile, Arsenal star Max Downman is also in the squad after impressing for the Gunners’ Under-18s.

The 15-year-old is expected to tour with Arsenal’s first-team squad this summer. And was praised by head coach Adam Burchall after scoring twice against Aston Villa at the weekend.
